A SPECIAL VENDITION EDITION: too many IRL L.A. sales this weekend to ignore
Dear Snoops,
We’ll be brief-ish. (Or, at least easily scrollable.)
And, we know we’re out of turn here, appearing in your Inbox on a Friday and not a Monday (that will happen, too), but we feel a certain samaritan duty for a quick review of the (best) activities this weekend in Los Angeles: i.e., buzzy places to buy things IRL.
Our condolences to those who are not in Los Angeles – the weather is fantastic; furniture lovers are reaching climax; and this.
CRITICAL PROCUREMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN LOS ANGELES THIS WEEKEND:
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y
1. THE DEN SURPLUS SALE
WHO
Den is a shop. It’s best described as FULLY DREAMY, because the stuff is super high-qual while also not being, like, Togo sofas (i.e., the utterly predictable Togo sofa). Rule of thumb: EVERYTHING > PREDICTABLE. (And we say this as owners of a Noguchi table lamp – we all have our weaknesses!)
Also, Den is . But, thankfully we’re talking about DEN SURPLUS here… a.k.a. source of DEN DEALS. We recently purchased (and are currently sitting in) a Knoll desk chair by Morrison Hannah for like $150 when really they are worth $1500.
What
AND, this Saturday, DEN SURPLUS is having a sale, with a strong twenty % off and a ton of SMALLS (a.k.a. what furniture people call, like, things one person can pick up?) sub-fifty bucks.
BONUS: some clothing avail care of special guest LE ONE VINTAGE.
Where, when
5102 Fountain Avenue, 90029
April 29, 10AM-6PM
2. MARTA’S “A GLORIFIED GARAGE SALE”
WHO
Marta is a ‘design’ gallery, let’s say. (What is “design”, what is “art”? We’ll NEVER, EVER want an answer.) They are most famous to FOR SCALE for showing the work of our favorites, L.A. Door. (Please refer to our PINE post.)
Absolutely no clue what is compelling them to have this sale, but we are roused.
What
We’ve included their invite below, because: quite chic. But, if we were to guess, it’ll be quite high brow shit that is still totally feasible as like, everyday home wares.
BOOKS!, “DÉCOR”!, LIGHTING!… it goes on.
Where, when
1545 West Sunset Boulevard, 90026
April 29, FROM 11AM
3. THE INFINITE ARCHIVE SALE
WHO
Infinite are, like, unknown to FOR SCALE, ‘cause it’s clothes and we wear Vans OLD SKOOLS until they disintegrate on our feet. BUT, they seem totally excellent. And, non-clothes some FOR SCALE favorites will in fact be present, namely PLANTS & SPACES. They are experts in the very of-the-moment spindly-thin plant look, and most often in exceptional unnew pots and such. (We have one that’s in some truly ancient hard-carved stone mortar.)
What
LOTS going on here - one of these multi-seller market things - and of course we’ve already mentioned PLANTS & SPACES. But, you can also expect PUPPY BREATH (not unnew stuff - but UNNEW and natural materials!), who, as you may recall, make a big, fun, squishy CHAIN we talked about here.
Where, when
8032 West 3rd Street, 90048
April 29, 11AM-5PM
HONORABLE MENTION
The too-cool mostly-clothes people at BASIC.SPACE are also doing a Saturday sale. Again, clothes confuse us – but, if you’re out and about anyway?
MINI-MARKET happens at 620 N La Cienega Boulevard, 11AM-4PM
S-U-N-D-A-Y
1. DOWNTOWN MODERNISM (UNMISSABLE!)
WHO
Quite a mega-big-deal of a thing, its got a whopping 80+ sellers of the unnew from California “and beyond” (MAYBE EVEN FROM OUTER SPACE! They are unclear about that). Hosted by MODERNICA (a kind of made-in-L.A. Eames vibe) at their factory – which unlike most other hip ‘Factories’ is an actual factory.
What
Some FOR SCALE favorites will be present, like: DREX, DOODAD, FORMAS, and so many more!
Where, when
2901 Saco Street, 90058
April 30, 8AM-2PM (And, its a $10 entry fee)
HONORABLE MENTION
(versus a full mention, because there’s not really a furniture/domestic-stuff presence, and it’s new (vs unnew)) PLATFORM, in Culver City, is host to a little market by MILK TEETH and it’s very stylish-fam-focused (i.e., presence of neutral bouncy castle) and FOR SCALE absolute-total-favorites MOTHER TONGUE MAGAZINE will be selling their new issue there.
MOTHER TONGUE co-founder is also FOR SCALE’s LIFE-AS-PARENT Correspondent, and you can read her contribution here.
Well, that’s all folks. Until Monday, and regularly scheduled programming!
DON’T FORGET TO:
LOVE AND GOOD LUCK,
