RE: That floor. There was a incredible restaurant in SF that had moved into a place that was a printing press for 100 years or so. The floor had metal typeface letters from the old press that had fallen and somehow forever merged with the wood. It also had that wonderful bits of copper that you nail in to cover holes in the wood floor. They originally just stained it a dark inky color so the bits of type kind of sparkled if the light hit it right. When they remodeled they replaced that floor. Why?! Health code? ADA? I know these things are good things but they sure do sterilize our environments. It will forever live in my mind.
